The Flowers are Coming

When we first noticed the flowers starting to come up it was a little bit of an overcast day, and the flowers that were coming up were the overachieving forerunners of spring.  Today was a beautiful sunny day and now everything is growing and blooming.

In the back yard we discovered some pretty ground cover.  We have several varieties of phlox, which have pretty purple flowers.

It grows up both sides of the stone stairs and fills in with fun splashes of color.

In the lawn there as well as on the hill we found these fun purple and green plants.  This particular patch will probably get mowed, but there is plenty more all over the yard.

The tulips are shooting up, but there are still only a few lonely over achieving narcissus.

It turned out that the bush I thought was going to have white flowers was just the last azalea to bloom with lovely purple flowers.

Here another lonely narcissus waiting for tulips and  other flowers to catch up.  In the lower left hand corner you can also see grape hyacinths starting to come up.

By our biggest Japanese maple the purple hyacinths and crocuses are now standing out against the mulch we managed to put down last weekend to replace the leaves we used to cover the plantings in the fall.

On the other side of the Japanese maple the hockey gnome is keeping an eye on the house.

On the front lawn we also have even more violets.

The flowers in front of the mailbox are bigger, but show no signs of blooming yet.

The pink hyacinths are coming up by the Japanese maple at the bottom of the lawn.

The big Japanese maple even looks like it is blooming...

...but really the leaves are unfolding.
